9 Alcoholic Drinks to Avoid if You’re Limiting Your Calories : ScienceAlert

But just because you enjoy a drink or two doesn’t mean your mood is ruined. Efforts to cut calories.

We used nutrition information primarily from allrecipes.com and a few other sites to create a list of the most popular high-calorie alcoholic beverages and offer low-calorie alternatives.

From beer lighter than lager to martinis better than mojitos, scroll down to see nine of the most high-calorie beverages and their low-calorie alternatives.

Replace a Long Island Iced Tea (262 calories) with a Cosmopolitan (131 calories).

According to AllRecipes.com, the ingredients list includes vodka, gin, rum, tequila, triple sec, and cola, so it’s no surprise that one Long Island drink has 262 calories.

Swap a pina colada (423 calories) for a Fuzzy Navel (367 calories).

pina colada are quintessential beachside cocktails, but due to the coconut and pineapple mixers, these drinks typically have around 423 calories per serving.

The Fuzzy Navel, on the other hand, contains only peach schnapps and orange juice, making it a fruity enough alternative at 367 calories per drink.

Replace Mojito (203 calories) with Diet Rum & Coke (115 calories).

Mojitos are a summer favourite, but with simple syrup, they can have as many as 203 calories per cup.

As a similarly sweet but low-calorie drink, Diet Rum & Coke contains only 100 calories per 8 ounces, making it a great alternative to a sweet rummy.

Swap out the cooler (about 228 calories) for hard seltzer (about 100 calories).

Coolers often have added sugar. Calorie counts vary by brand and flavor. for example, smirnoff ice vodka cooler According to the MyFitnessPal app, Mike’s Hard Black Cherry Lemonade contains 228 calories, with 400 calories per bottle.

Gin and tonics are a global staple, but tonic water has added sugars, so a regular serving has about 193 calories.

But for gin lovers looking for a lighter alternative, try Gin Ricky. This drink replaces the tonic with seltzer water and adds lime. This cuts out the added sugar and brings the total number of calories per serving to 146. According to Moody Mixologist.

Swap Whiskey Sours (555 calories) for Old Fashioneds (168 calories).

Sweet and tangy bubbles whiskey sour It makes a delicious treat, especially on a hot summer afternoon. But since most of the cocktails are simple syrups, the calorie count is a little higher than calorie watchers would like. One drink can have as many as 555 calories.

But if you’re looking for something else bourbon-based, you can go back to classic bourbon. old-fashioned. A sugar cube and a slice of orange lighten the bourbon darks in this drink.

Swap a margarita (321 calories) for a Moscow Mule (153 calories).

Margarita is also a fashionable cocktail, but unfortunately it is not particularly low-calorie, with 321 calories per cup.

Swap it out for another lime crisp classic, the Moscow Mule. These have just 153 calories per serving.

Replace a pint of lager (about 200 calories) with a light beer (about 100 calories).

The calorie content of bottled and canned beer varies greatly depending on the type, brand, and beer you are drinking.

A regular-strength lager averages about 170 calories, according to MensHealth.com, while heavier beers like IPAs are generally higher in calories.
