New Hampshire health officials have confirmed seven cases of Legionnaires’ disease in downtown Lincoln in June and July. Previously, there had been five cases of Legionnaires’ disease in the area. The Department of Health and Human Services announced successful remediation efforts to remove Legionnaires’ bacteria from a cooling tower behind Riverwalk Resort earlier this month. “The negative test results received today are good news and demonstrate the effectiveness of the cleaning and disinfection of the cooling tower,” said state epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chang. “Therefore, we do not believe there is an increased risk of Legionnaires’ disease infection from this cooling tower at this time.” The state said it will continue to monitor the facility to prevent regrowth of the bacteria. This is an ongoing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
