“Workplace anxiety is a pervasive problem for many women, driven by a complex interplay of social pressures, internalized bias, and an inherently daunting organizational culture. From an early age, girls are often socialized to prioritize perfectionist tendencies and people-pleasing behaviors.”These thought patterns are often linked to chronic professional self-doubt and fear of imposters. Here are some tips for women to overcome workplace anxiety,” says Dr. Chandni Tughnait, Physician (Alternative Medicine) and Psychotherapist. Identify and counter self-destructive thoughts: Women are often socialized to doubt themselves and belittle their accomplishments. Become aware of negative thought patterns such as impostor syndrome and catastrophizing and actively challenge them with positive self-talk and evidence of your abilities. (Freepik)

Adopt power poses: Research shows that adopting expansive, confident body language lowers cortisol (stress hormone) levels and increases self-confidence. Before an important meeting or presentation, spend a few minutes in a “power pose,” such as standing tall and putting your hands on your hips, to boost your confidence. (Freepik)

Find an ally at work: Having a trusted confidant at work can provide important support. Find a mentor or friend with whom you can openly discuss your concerns. It can provide perspective and validation when self-doubt creeps in. (Freepik)

Beware of perfectionism. The constant pursuit of perfection increases anxiety and burnout. Strive for “done” rather than perfection, and focus on learning opportunities rather than perfection. (Freepik)
