SPRINGFIELD – A Pennsylvania company last month acquired 13 Planet Fitness stores in western Massachusetts for an undisclosed sum.
New owner National Fitness Partners announced the deal on Monday.
“We have a mission to serve more than 1 million members, and we are very proud to have achieved that goal,” President and CEO Stephen Kindler Jr. said in a statement. “I think so,” he said. “We recognize the importance of regular exercise and are committed to making fitness options available to people at an affordable price.”
Stephen Rondeau of South Hadley, part of the former local ownership group, will remain with National Fitness Partners, the company said.
Massachusetts locations are in Belchertown, Chicopee, Hadley, Holyoke, Pittsfield, North Adams, Northampton, Springfield (at Liberty and Parker Streets), Westfield, and West Springfield.
The sale also included properties in East Granby and Enfield, Connecticut.
National Fitness Partners has 136 locations and 1,700 employees. It is owned by Argonne Capital Group, an Atlanta-based private investment firm.
